Donors
Join the fight today to protect trafficking survivors’ rights. Your support provides free and effective legal representation for survivors.
Why are we unique?
To maintain its independence, the Human Trafficking Legal Center does not take any corporate or government money. We rely solely on private donations from individuals and foundations. These private sources of funding sustain our critical work in creating access to justice for trafficking survivors.
Impact
Because of you, courageous trafficking survivors can fight for justice with pro bono lawyers by their side.
Other ways to give
A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a type of giving fund administered by a third party such as a community foundation or financial institution. DAFs allow you to make a charitable contribution of cash, securities, or other assets to the fund, receive an immediate tax deduction, and then recommend grants from your DAF account over time to the nonprofits you wish to support.
Further your impact
Giving a gift to the Human Trafficking Legal Center from your DAF is not only convenient and easy for you, but it makes an undeniable impact on our work.

Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs):
A Tax-Smart Way to Support the Human Trafficking Legal Center
Did you know that you can make a significant impact on the fight against human trafficking while potentially lowering your tax burden? If you’re 70½ or older, a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) allows you to donate directly from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to a qualified nonprofit organization, like the Human Trafficking Legal Center, in a tax-efficient way.
What Is a Qualified Charitable Distribution?
A QCD directly transfers funds from your traditional IRA to a qualified charitable organization. These distributions:
- Count toward your required minimum distribution (RMD) if you’re 73 or older.
- Are excluded from your taxable income, providing potential tax savings compared to withdrawing funds and then donating.
- Allow you to give up to $100,000 per year tax-free, even if you don’t itemize deductions on your tax return.
Benefits of Making a QCD to the Human Trafficking Legal Center
By directing your QCD to the Human Trafficking Legal Center, you help support our mission to provide pro bono legal services to survivors of trafficking and advance policies that hold traffickers accountable. Your gift ensures we can continue to empower survivors and dismantle trafficking networks worldwide.
How to Make a QCD
- Consult Your Financial Advisor
- Speak with your financial or tax advisor to determine if a QCD is right for you.
- Contact Your IRA Custodian
- Request your IRA custodian to transfer funds directly to the Human Trafficking Legal Center. Checks must be payable to the organization to qualify as a QCD.
- Notify Us
- Let us know about your gift! This lets us properly acknowledge your generosity and ensure it is directed according to your wishes.
Key QCD Guidelines
- You must be 70½ or older to make a QCD.
- Funds must come directly from a traditional IRA. (Other account types, like 401(k)s, are not eligible.)
- The maximum annual QCD limit is $100,000 per person.
