Jose Lewis Alfaro
Jose Lewis Alfaro is a lived experience expert, dynamic public speaker, accomplished author, and dedicated activist. His steadfast advocacy centers on spreading awareness on the domestic trafficking of minors, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, males, and highlights the importance of systemic change to prevent trafficking with marginalized communities.
Alfaro collaborates with anti-trafficking organizations from around the world, demonstrating his commitment to combating this pervasive issue. As a member of the board of directors for both the Human Trafficking Legal Center and HEAL Trafficking, Alfaro plays a crucial role in shaping the initiatives of each organization in their engagement with lived experience experts and their work to eradicate human trafficking. Alfaro is also a current member of the United States Advisory Council on Human Trafficking, advising the U.S. government and the White House on human trafficking policy.
Alfaro’s extensive advocacy has been featured in several media outlets, including Rolling Stone, Lifetime, the Boston Globe, PBS and National Public Radio. His insights and experiences provide a compelling narrative that sheds light on the complexities of human trafficking.
Alfaro has conducted numerous trainings on human trafficking for law enforcement, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Justice, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and the UK Border Force. His involvement encompasses public speaking engagements, insightful lectures, public advocacy efforts, and consultation with attorneys and healthcare professionals.
Alfaro currently resides in Boston, Massachusetts, where he began his career in the beauty industry. He decided to make the shift to full time advocacy work after testifying in the federal trial against his trafficker.
