Ima Matul Maisaroh

Ima Matul Maisaroh (She/Her) is a survivor advocate, mentor, consultant, international speaker, and is a founding member and the former manager of the Survivor Leadership Program at the Coalition to Abolish Slavery & Trafficking (CAST). She manages multiple projects related to survivor leadership including overseeing the LA Survivor Network “Resilient Voices” and the National Survivor Network (NSN). Ima has spoken at local, national, and international conferences and training. Ima has built a community and a network of human trafficking survivor leaders nationally. Together with the survivor network, she has made a profound impact on U.S. anti-trafficking efforts and policies. Ima has consulted with multiple organizations on starting and supporting Survivor Leadership Programs, including developing a training curriculum with Office for Victims of Crime Training and Technical Assistance Center (OVCTTAC) on Survivor Professional Development. In 2012, she was recognized by President Barack Obama as a hero in today’s abolitionist movement during the Clinton Global Initiative when he announced a major U.S. government initiative to combat modern-day slavery in the United States and abroad. In 2015, Ima was appointed to the first United States Advisory Council on Human Trafficking, and in 2016, Ima was invited to speak by Hillary Clinton at the National Democratic Convention on the issue of human trafficking. 

Ima is a powerful speaker and advocate for the rights of immigrant laborers in the United States. She has participated in a number of speaking events at conferences and trainings all over the world, and she has met with state and federal legislators, officials, academics, and celebrities to promote survivor-centered legislation on the issue of human trafficking. Ima has received numerous awards for her leadership. 

Matul currently works in the medical administration field. She is a mother of three, a survivor advocate, a mentor, a consultant, and a former member of the U.S. Advisory Council on Human Trafficking.
