The Human Trafficking Legal Center, represented by pro bono counsel Goodwin Proctor LLP, filed an amicus brief in support of the plaintiffs, a group of Cuban doctors alleging that they were forced to provide medical services in Brazil.  The plaintiffs filed suit against the Pan American Health Organization for the organization’s role in facilitating Mais Médicos, a program that sent Cuban doctors to provide medical services in Brazil.  PAHO acted as a financial intermediary for the Mais Médicos program, collecting and distributing fees from Brazil to be paid to the Cuban government and keeping a portion of the fees for itself.  PAHO is alleged to have collected more than $75 million between 2013 and 2018 under the program.
